Another Government Shutdown Looming: Food Stamps could be Cutoff for 46 Million

There is a growing possibility that the government could yet again shut down, as congress again struggles to pass a simple budget. Come October 1st 2015, we could see a repeat of the 2013 government shutdown, the shutdown where President Obama punished the American people and closed the entire National Parks system and then threatened to arrest anyone who entered the parks.

This year’s budget crisis has been further complicated because of a battle over federal funding for Planned Parenthood and the group’s involvement in selling aborted baby parts on the open market. Democrats are refusing to defund the group, even after multiple videos surfaced showing the groups leadership approving the illegal sale of aborted babies.

Food Stamps to be Cutoff

Food Stamp Riots

Should a shutdown occur this time, we could see some serious trouble on the streets as food stamp benefits are expected to be cut for some 46 million Americans.

The Agriculture Department said Tuesday that it will stop providing benefits on October 1st if Congress does not pass legislation to keep government agencies open.

“If Congress does not act to avert a lapse in appropriations, then USDA will not have the funding necessary for SNAP benefits in October and will be forced to stop providing benefits within the first several days of October,” said Catherine Cochran, a spokeswoman for USDA. “Once that occurs, families won’t be able to use these benefits at grocery stores to buy the food their families need.”

The Agriculture Department failed to give a reason on why the automatic funding would not continue, which is a bit odd since the 2013 shutdown did not affect food stamp benefits. Last Friday, the agency sent letters to the states telling them to hold off “until further notice” on starting the process of distributing food stamp benefits on the first of the month.

Chaos in the streets…

Should these benefits be cut, I expect to see major chaos throughout the country, especially in urban areas. The chaos we witnessed in Ferguson and Baltimore could pale in comparison to the chaos that we will see when people find out they have been cut off.

Whether it’s this government shutdown or some future economic crisis, the writing seems to be on the wall: At some point these government welfare programs are going to collapse. There is simply no way that a government that sits at $18.2 trillion in debt with unfunded liabilities that exceed $200 trillion can continue to keep handing out money to people who refuse to work.

When President Obama took office, 28.2 million received food stamp benefits. That number is now well over 46 million. These government programs were intended to provide a lifeline to those in need, not pay for lifelong victims who milk the system dry.

In 2013, the EBT system temporarily went down. Within a matter of hours, some stores were actually stripped bare by people who were threatening to riot if the system didn’t come back online. We live in a country where half the population now relies on at least one government assistance program to live; what do you think is going to happen when the government finally realizes it is unable to continue the handouts?

There are people in this country who want this chaos…

It’s something I’ve been talking about for quite some time, and one of the main reasons I wrote my book The Ultimate Situational Survival Guide: Self-Reliance Strategies for a Dangerous World.

Rioting in the streets

Over the last couple of years we have witnessed a large spike in mob attacks, attacks at grocery stores, riots, active shooter situations, and violent outbreaks throughout the country. Much of this has been egged on by morally bankrupt politicians who continue to make excuses for this type of behavior.
