Franklin Roosevelt said it was against public policy for "subjects of the United States" to deal in gold. He threatened jail and fines if they never surrendered their gold. "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!" The people surrendered their gold and their sovereignty! The fifth amendment was no protection: "Private property shall not be taken for public use without just compensation." The founders should have said "just payment." And they should have given Congress just the power to "coin gold and silver" rather than the power to "coin money." This amendment also forbid compulsion to testify against ourselves but this is twisted to no "self incrimination." (but testify anyway) !!! It does not say "self incrimination"!
