Nov. 22, 2014 20 to 30 appliances 'had hidden chips that send out malware to networks' Comes as EU probes claims Russia tried to steal data from G20 leaders Russian investigators claim to have found household appliances imported from China which contain hidden microchips that pump spam data and malware into wi-fi networks. Authorities in St Petersburg allegedly discovered 20 to 30 kettles and irons with 'spy microchips that send some data to the foreign server', according to Russian media. The revelation comes just as the EU launches an investigation into claims that Russia itself bugged gifts to delegates at last month's G20 summit in an attempt to retrieve data from computers and telephones. Kitchen espionage: Kettles imported to Russia from China with hidden microchips which can send spam data and possibly steal information have allegedly been found by authorities in St Petersburg This has led to speculation that the chips allegedly found in the home appliances may also have the ability to steal data and send it back to Chinese servers.

A member of the Advisory Council at the State Duma Committee for Regional Policy, Natalia Zubarevich, told about four of a large number of reasons for the inevitable and inexorable death of Russia, as a result of which this country will cease to exist as a single entity and will be divided into independent states in accordance with subjects and sub-subjects of the current "federation", hated by everybody: "First, the quality of life is deteriorating in the Moscow metropolitan agglomeration due to growing infrastructure and environmental problems, while the population increases. Second, economic development of large cities which are regional centers is sharply slowing because of lack of investments and deterioration of the institutional environment, which also leads to an even greater concentration of manpower in the federal city. Third, marginalization of vast peripheral areas is increasing, and a depopulation takes place. Unemployment, social benefits, etc. And there is less and less money in the budget.

Will force greater reliance on strategic nuclear forces June 22, 2009 Editor's Note: The following report is excerpted from Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin, the premium online newsletter published by the founder of WND. Subscriptions are $99 a year or, for monthly trials, just $9.95 per month for credit card users, and provide instant access for the complete reports. Aging weapons, poor maintenance and rank-and-file officers who don't "want to do anything" mean the Russian military is on the verge of a "catastrophic crisis" and if forced into action would be much more likely to use strategic nuclear weapons, according to a report in Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin. This is the prognosis of Russian Chief of the General Staff and First Deputy Defense Minister Army-General Nikolai Makarov.

Thursday 04 June 2009 Beijing - China blanketed Tiananmen Square with police and security forces on Thursday, blocking any attempt to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the deadly crackdown on mass democracy protests. Organizers said that about 150,000 people joined the vigil pictured above in Hong Kong. (Photo: Mike Clarke / Getty Images) The government again defended the decision to put down the demonstrations, which left hundreds and perhaps thousands dead, and firmly dismissed a US demand for a public accounting of the events of June 3-4, 1989. Tens of thousands of people crowded a park late Thursday in semi-autonomous Hong Kong for the only major commemoration of the anniversary on Chinese soil. Thousands more were expected to attend events in other cities around the world.

Wednesday 03 June 2009 US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has urged China to publicly account for those killed in the suppression of the Tiananmen Square protests 20 years ago. Pro-democracy demonstrators link arms to hold back angry crowds from chasing a group of retreating soldiers near the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, China, June 3, 1989. (Photo: AP) Mrs Clinton said China should release those still held over the protests and stop harassing those who took part. Hundreds, possibly thousands, of people died in the crackdown and open discussion of the events remains taboo. There is very tight security is very tight in Beijing, with police sealing off the square.

March 25, 209 THE BEAR is back and this time the bellicose beast means business. In one of the most decisive foreign policy initiatives of his presidency, Russia’s leader, Dmitry Medvedev, took off his gloves last week and announced a comprehensive plan to modernise and rearm his country’s armed forces and reclaim its position as a global power.Stung by Nato’s enlargement eastwards towards Russia’s borders and angered by the US decision to site missile defences in eastern Europe, Medvedev has retaliated by announcing a budget equivalent to £30 billion for weapons purchases this year, including the creation of a new strategic nuclear fleet, and a top-to bottom restructuring of the country’s armed forces. “Let me mention the top priorities,” said Medvedev in his annual address to staff at the defence ministry. “The main one is a qualitative increase in the troops’ readiness, primarily of nuclear forces.

Vladimir Putin is facing an unprecedented military challenge to his authority as discontent over medieval conditions and planned personnel cuts mounts within the Russian armed forces. Photo: BLOOMBERG The prospect of losing the unwavering support of the 1.2 million-strong armed forces is causing alarm in the Kremlin at a time when the Russian prime minister is already looking vulnerable. Simmering public anger over the government's handling of Russia's stalling economy has triggered the first ever protests demanding Mr Putin's resignation.

Friday 08 August 2008 Tbilisi, Georgia - Russian troops moved into South Ossetia hours after Prime Minister Vladimir Putin warned Georgia that its attack on the breakaway region would draw retaliation, Russian television reported Friday. On Friday near South Ossetia's capital, Georgian troops fired rockets at troops from the separatist province. (Photo: Reuters) The Russian move comes after Georgian troops launched a major military offensive earlier Friday to regain control over South Ossetia and the president accused Russia, which has close ties to the separatists, of bombing Georgian territory. The fighting in South Ossetia has raised fears of an all-out war that could draw in Russia, which has peacekeepers in the region. Putin said an unspecified number of the peacekeepers have been wounded.

Russia and China have condemned a US plan for a global missile defence shield, saying it will set back international disarmament efforts. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev signed a joint statement with Chinese President Hu Jintao in Beijing. The US says the shield, parts of which it plans to deploy in Europe, is key to its own security and that of allies. The joint statement came as Russia's new president began a state visit Both Russia and China have opposed the plans in the past but this is the first time they have come together to do so. The US, which wants to locate a radar base in the Czech Republic and an interceptor missile site in Poland, says the system will offer protection against missiles fired from states like Iran and North Korea.

Feb 14, 2008 6:24 PM EST NEWARK — A former state senator was indicted Thursday on influence-peddling charges, accused of funneling millions of public dollars to a hospital for a $5,000-a-month consulting fee. Joseph Coniglio, 65, faces one count of extortion and eight counts of mail fraud. Each charge carries up to 20 years in prison and fines of up to $250,000. The retired plumber from Bergen County approached Hackensack University Medical Center soon after being appointed to the influential Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee in 2004 and received about $103,900 by the time the arrangement ended in early 2006, according to the indictment. Coniglio has maintained his innocence, but he dropped his re-election bid in September after being told he was targeted in a federal corruption probe involving the hospital.

Admiral Vladimir Vysotsky summed up Sunday the results of the Russian naval task force's two-month tour of duty in the Mediterranean Sea and the North Atlantic. The operation was the first large-scale Russian navy exercise in the Atlantic and the Mediterranean in 15 years. "What is important is that we have appeared [in the Atlantic and the Mediterranean] at a scheduled time and not just that we appeared there. We'll do all we can to build up our presence where Russia has strategic interests," Vysotsky said, adding that Russia intended to carry out similar missions once every six months.

An Area 51 in Russia? Some people think so and their suspicions are shared by the US Congress. Testamony was taken on Congressional suspicions of Russian complex in Yamantau Mountain, circa 1997, and can be checked with the Congressional Record for that session.A Huge Anthill?[www.fas.org] -- Starting in the Brezhnev period, Russia has been pursuing construction of a massive underground facility at Yamantau Mountain and the city of Mezhgorye (formerly the settlements of Beloretsk-15 and Beloretsk-16).

At long last, former Russian president and notorious booze-hound Boris Yeltsin dies >> See what people are saying about Taibbi's latest column, add your own response and browse a full archive of The Low Post. Boris Yeltsin was always good for a laugh, which is probably why on the occasion of his death people outside of Russia are not calling him words like scum and monster, but instead recalling him fondly, with a smile, as one would a retarded nephew who could always be counted on to pull his pants down at Thanksgiving dinner. Like most people who lived in Russia during the 1990s -- and Russia was my home throughout Yeltsin's entire reign as Russian president -- I have a wide variety of fond memories of the Motherland's drunken, bloblike train wreck of a revolutionary leader. My favorite came in 1995, at a press conference in Moscow, when a couple of American reporters perfectly captured the essence of Yeltsin by heckling him as he stumbled into the room. As he burst through the side entrance with that taillight-red face of his, hands wobbling in front of him in tactile search of the podium, the two hacks in the back called out: "Nor-r-r-r-r-r-m!" Such a perfect moment, I almost died laughing.
